are you sure you've wired it up right? red light is not that bad all it means is that its not charging.... Had the same problem with the van... Make sure that the wires have a good connection with clean metal

Hi Jon,Do you have a multimeter?. If you dig out your haynes and find charge rate from your dynamo. By checking the voltage output from the dynamo which ẁill give you an idea of the condition of the brushs. The regulator will cut the supply to the battery when the dynamo output is too great. I would have taken the same steps you have. If you are confident that the connections are ok and the regulator is good...i.e new. Then the next step can only be that of the dynamo. But make sure you get out the tester and check the voltage output from your dynamo first. Use a seperate clean earth first. If thats ok then test again this time by using the earth that connects to the reg.. If thats ok then use both the pos and neg on the regulator. As you do this you are checking the cable condition. Finally you will need to check the supply between the regulator and battery. I hope this will help a little. regards Steve

I am confident that the connections to the NEW regulator are ok as i swapped each wire over one by one! Just looking into where the brushes are it does look a little grimey and new brushes would probably improve things. I not sure but I think the dynamo has been polorised as the battery is positive earthed! I know there is a way of re-polorizing the dynamo but thats in John Muir's book which I don't have. This is probably the root cause but I don't want to just pay for a new dynamo cos they are £125!!!

Hope you get it sorted for Friday... No problem for Friday! The bug still runs ok - just as it always had, it's just I want to put the charging problem right, but that won't affect Friday.

Ok....I think I'm gonna have to re-polorize my generator, so I can get the battery back to negative earth as it should be. Anyone done this before or knows how to do it. I am also going to change the generator brushes aswell so any advise on this would be helpful.

We have sold our house and the house we are moving to has a double garage woohoo!!!!!! ;D. I see a home resto comin on..... It'll be nice to get the garage all kitted out for some major technical learning ahead
