Ive just got back from three weeks in Norway and I feel it's necessary to give a review of the campsites I stayed at. Hopefully it might encourage someone else to do the same trip next summer. For those who havent been the scenery is utterly astounding. For those that have you'll know what I'm waffling on a about.
I got my bus serviced and had a knew canvass fitted by Jez at Dubtricks. A pro job as always and had Rob at Harlequin re trim it inside, was a bit close to the wire in getting everything finished but still the craftsmanship was worth the wait.
Got a ferry from Newcastle to Bergen and was parked on the ferry behind a couple from Edinburgh (Lothians VW Club). Great crossing with all you can eat buffet well and truly abused. Had a 2 hour road journey to the first campsite at Gudvangen. Packed loads of wine as I was pre warned about the price of wine. Every available storage space had bottles of cider and boxes of wine in where possible (was slightly concerened when going through customs).
Decided to rent cabins as I couldnt be arsed putting up the awning every other day.
Gudvangen - great cabin very clean as were the showers. The washing up was outside but it's not a big deal when this is your view.
Reed - Fantastic campsite/facilities beautiful location on a lake with a great Margarita Pracathn Spanish woman running the site.
Strynsvatn - Yet another stunning location. lovely friendly couple running the site only down side was a religous gorup there on some sort of prayer week, although they were harmless enough (im no fan of organised religon).
Norwegian Dubbers. From Bergen VW Club.
Bjolstad - Another fantastic location with stunning views and great accomodation. No pics of this one.
Volsdalen - Alesund - bit tatty this one although Alesund is lovely. This was probably the worst cmapsite we stayed at. Filthy showers and cooking facilities and the room stunk.
Gloppen - Sandane My favoruite of all the campsites Our cabin was right on the side of the beach on the fjord. You can hire an outboard motor for £5.00 and hour which is uncharacteristicaly cheap for Norway. We met some Norweigan dubbers here who had a Westy like ours and a beautiful red beetle cabriolet.
They invited us to there house for a few days and we duly accepted. Took us out on one of their boats and showed us round a salmon farm they worked at. Fantastic hospitality lovely people.
Botnen - Right on the side of the worlds largest Fjord great cabin equipped with lean too dunny very handy for midnight toilet breaks.
Lone - Bergen A great site with fantastic amenities. Loads of different nationalities. Bergen is the wettest city in Norway and true to form it completely lashed it down, it's pretty on the Bryggen and where the Hansiatic houses are. They've got a fish market where the tourists are pitched ard to buy fish which is no better than the leeds fish market.
My youngest lad on hearing we were going home.
Regards Yorkie Dub, or now Leeds Westy on the Bergen forum.
