What a great meeting with a fantastic turnout for November. Apologies that not everyone could sit inside. its quite difficult to book tables when I dont know what the turnout will be like We could have pretty much filled the whole pub with the amount of people we had.

Great to see so many new faces and Vw's, the "mix" was just great, nearly a "Show" on its own!!!

I would like to raise a couple of points as i am new to the club i don't no who to ask, who actually runs the club?? How is the club funded?? Are we outgrowing our present meeting point at Stavely and does anybody have suggestions for an alternative meeting point?? i am not one to rock the boat but a few members could not even get a drink on Sunday!!

Hi Orvil,
Harrogate & District is a club for members run by members. There isn't strictly one person who runs the show, although Alex (alexdundee) and Hermann (66westy64bug) work incredibly hard on these forums and sending out mass emails etc...
We all work together to provide club stands at shows and organise camping trips, and that seems to work very well.
We don't ask for membership fees and we don't do accounts(!) therefore we are not a profit making organisation. However, we do sometimes have raffles when camping and at the christmas do to raise a bit of cash for show equipment like the tall sail banners that were there on Sunday. Some people are very kind and donate to the club but that is purely up to the individual.
The Royal Oak has been our meeting place since the club started and it is ideal with the camping field at the back. Rest assured, we were all very surprised (pleasantly) at the fantastic turn-out on Sunday which has been the biggest so far in club history, and we had no idea of the numbers that would turn up. Hermann usually books the long table inside the restaurant for club members sit down and have something to eat but with Sundays numbers we could have taken over the whole pub. Luckily the weather was good enough for people to drink outside.
It did take quite a while to get served drinks, but to be honest it always does on a sunday cos the pub gets very busy even without us lot - the food is worth the wait aswell! In fairness to the Royal Oak, they have been very welcoming in the past and have sorted us out with bookings etc and even let all of us camp for FREE at the xmas do. With this in mind, I don't think the club will be looking for an alternative meeting point just yet.
Hope this answers your queries
Jon
