I know , I know it's been dealt with before but I've got one...tried various things and it's still leaking so would like some advice.
Right over the winter had my 1600 TP out and changed my progressive carb to some 34ICT's. Also run a 009 pertronix, vintage speed exhaust and flamethrower coil...runs great but is pi**ing out behind the bottom pulley...not losing massive amounts of oil but enough to coat the engine bay in a thin film.
Right so had an aftermarket pulley so it was suggested I change to a better quality one...so I changed to a scat solid one...(which has the split washer that fits between the pulley and the thrower disc) and it's still coming out....
The oil is not overfilled..it doesn't leak out when I test it on the drive (after giving it a thorough warm up)
I am not running a crankshaft breather..is this the way to go? I thought it was overkill for a 1600. Is it due to the increased compression due to the new carbs?
I have heard a suggestion on other threads that if I leave the oil filler cap off for a journey and it doesn't leak this may indicate the need for a breather. I don't want to go to the trouble of drilling the rocker covers etc only to find this doesn't work.
Some people have suggested that a good quality stock pulley is the way to go, but again I thought the scat was a very good quality pulley....but confused as to why it has a split washer when previous pulleys have not?
How loose should the thrower disc be it has about 1mm or so of lateral play. I have zero crankshaft endfloat. The engine is a volkspares engine that I put in 14 years ago but has not been thrashed and has been well serviced and looked after and has given excellent service.
Sorry for the long essay but I'm coming to the end of my teather and don't want to waste more time doing things that don't work.
