Hi everyone,
I've recently replaced all 4 ball joints on my 71 bay and covered 600 miles since. I just crawled under to look around and all 4 have small splits to the front of boots. Anyone had issues with quality of new ball joints? I just cant think why all would split so soon.

I have a 71 bay and never had problems but it can be and issue if the front beam has been lowered too much, as the angle on the ball joint is too much pressure on it to last. That's why drop spindles help if lowering!
Where did you buy them from?
Can take a pic of mine to show you an acceptable angle.
Cheers

Yes! i have i'm on my third set of ball joints.
I think it's because my van is lowered on an adjustable beam (without dropped spindles) and therefore the joints reach maximum angle very quickly.
GSF did exchange my last pair as they split within 1 month.

Thanks guys for the posts, makes sense as when lowered the joints do seem towards there maximum. Spindle lowering time I think.

I recently found out that the ball joint sockets are not circular they are oval. If they are not fitted in line they deteriorate quickly.
To check there are two square sections cut out of each ball joint, check they are facing forwards and backwards.
Mine were not aligned correctly.
