Hi,
I've built my engine when I had the bottom lump reconditioned and not that difficult really, what engine are you building?
I used the Bug me videos to help me learn the engine rebuilds a couple of years ago, some of them are on you tube now. and if you get stuck you can pause do a bit and carry on.
I could lend you the DVD if you wanted?
let us know what your building etc
cheers
Simon

Top end rebuild is pretty straight forward and think the Haynes manual covers it ?
As 'biscuit' says - Ensure that the bottom end is in good. If not you're new top end won't stay new for too long.
I have an old 1600 T/P sat in the garage that was intended for new barrels and pistons. The bottom end is a little too 'slack' for me to feel comfortable in replacing the top end.
It may well be a knackered bottom end that caused the excess wear in the first place. Check the 'end float' on the crank is first job.

ive got a 1300tp, the carb was worn n it made the top end go, i have history that proves the cars dun 52,000 and there litrally NO end float, had it checked by herbie hospital in leeds n they say its fine, so ive got pushrods, tubes, barrels, pistons rings heads etc n am gna fit a single glass pack n vent the rocker covers as ive got a 1641 in the garage waiting for carbs n exhaust but my bugs a daily runner so ant rly got time or money to f**k about.
