I think VW still stock them or if not VW Heritage will obtain one for you, how do you know its the steering box and not bushes /track rods etc

guy who did some work on her recently said that the steering had a notchy feel and was probably down to the steering box.
So i'm not a hundred per cent sure of what the problem is

Steering Box replacement (Or the "Worm Gear" in the Box) is usually detected when your van wanders while driving and any correction feels like it takes longer than usual to correct, a "Notchy" feel can be taken up by adjusting the tracking, I would suggest you get the tracking checked (This is not an expensive job) before forking out a lump of money replacing the steering box.
During the tracking check they will be able to tell if your steering box is worn.
