Gazbo, Looking at the last pic. I know that you're nowhere near dropping the floor in yet. Make sure we chat about the gear linkage before you do. The bolt that you can see should come up from underneath. It also has a point on it, to fit into a recess in the gearbox selector shaft (hockey stick), so I think that may just be a bolt thats been bodged in.

Jelli.......its been rotated thats all, guess it has no gearbox in it.
Take your time and it will turn out okay, its not as bad as some I have seen.......at least it has a roof, front clip and two sides!!!

MK1's are very basic.....they rot very badly at the suspension points and inner door cills, very expensive to repair as you have to cut into the bulkheads....not many nice MK1's about, MKII's are a much better buy, a very good 8valve GTi are about £3/£3.5k

We've got a Mk4, had a MK3 and 2 I've always wanted a good Mk1 to complete the set........ But your right the Mk2 is still a lovely motor and I would have either depending on the price and originality. i want one that is natural looking.
If you know of anyone selling one then give me a shout!
cheers
Simon

Cheers everybody, although it is my first bus i've messed about with mini's before and believe me they just do rot !!!!! So having a decent guage metal to play with from the start is nice, the bus looks a lot worse than it is i reckon a couple of months should have it looking something like good,
Biscuit i'm not extremely familiar with golfs thats my second i had a rag top for 6 months before the tin top, and only really had to do some electrical work and the interior but all in all they seem a pretty solid little car

I keep nipping over to see Gazza and check up on 'Danny'.
Let me tell you all that I am never anything but totally amazed at his progress. I do keep telling him to get some pics posted, but he must always be in the garage!
Work done so far (apologies G if I miss anything out) Nearly all the chassis replaced, creative IRS fitted. New chassis legs under cab floor including steering box mounts. Steering box has been lifted and column shortened etc, front end is now back on and doors aligned. Loads of other small bits that no one will ever see.
If I hear anyone dissing this van when it's finished I'll probably slap them. This is one massive undertaking and all done by one bloke in his garage !!
Come on Gaz get some pics on and show off your work.

Ok ok ok i give in, i do spend most of my spare time in the garage so here ya are a little update,
Ps cheers steve, i don't think you missed much lol
Seeing as pretty much all of the shell needed attention of one form or another i tried to break it up into sections, ie front, middle, back and roof, tackling one bit at a time,
I must add that i haven't been totally on my own doing the project i've had a lot of help/support from my other half, she loves those tedious paint stripping job's, parts ordering and so on, it saves me a lot of time so i can get on with something else

Here goes, three of the four front door hinges were shot in fact the best part of the lower two were missing, i managed to turn this into this.... quite neat too Cuttting the front clip off was a bit of a mistake because you lose a lot of reference points but a little time and effort saw it go back on, it made working on it easier though i managed to get the doors to line up after much cursing this was a scary point to be at on your first ever splitty..... you can't see it from that picture but there was a pice of 3x2 box section under the bulkhead where the front top hat should be with the outrriggers attached ..... this looks better

where did i get to ? oh yeah i was in the middle, all the outriggers and jacking points were missing presumed rotten, the o/s inner sill had been replaced with yet another piece of box section, the n/s inner/ outer sill was pretty solid but i couldn't make head nor tail of any of the metal except the door catch holes, note the box section.... "floating sill" And o/s wheel arch.....ish looking better watch this space there's more to come
