Hello again air-coolettes You may recall that my beetle cab terminally lost its 1915 porsche cooled engine in december from oil loss. However I thought you may wish to know that it is very happy with its brand spanking new one and the care from T2D and RPM who built and installed it. I also put in oil pressure and temperature monitoring and these are really helpful. It does look like the crank case pressures reduces significantly when the oil is warm and so a little warm up period from a cold start now seems prudent. You all may know that already. Once the oil reaches 120 degrees the whole thing is ready for anything. This new 1776 unit has plenty of power and at 500 miles it is ready for an oil and filter change and all is well So my present problem is : The headlights are coming on randomly at full beam. Doesnt matter if ignition is on or off. Why? ...personally I think its a steering column wiring problem as the steering lock was changed and the on off switch on the dash doesnt switvch the lights off. It has happended when driving and when parked up. It will flatten the battery... Could there be a faulty beam dip switch, relay or thingamyjig in the circuit or something... What advice do you have.. do I need a grown up electrician or can I refresh this area as a lay person.. My MOT runs uot today and I am reluctant to enter him without this being fixed. Regards Stuart PS I am dead keen to come to a club meeting but have been working Sundays since the cab is fixed..

Nice to hear your cab is running sweet as.
Re your lights:-
1. The lighting stalk is connected through a series of singular wires to a spade connector array (Male) at the end, this then connects to a female connnector, simply disconnecet and clean the connectors.
2. The main beam goes through a relay, I would first tighten up all the connections as a loose connection creates high current which in turn makes the coil in the relay energise.
3. If that does not cure it replace the relay, the actual type of relay installed will be on the side, you can get a relay from any motor factors.
If you don't fix it the MOT will be a fail I am afraid, hope that helps
