Hi all, i'm new to this board so thought I should start by introducing myself.. My wife and I moved up to Harrogate in Apr last year from Salisbury, Wiltshire. we brought with us a 1973 1303 Beetle 'Percy' which is my wife Michaela's dream car, it sometimes gets classed as OUR car when it requires fixing. ;D
I've been after a T2 for a while and in Feb I got the chance to purchase a 1979 T2 Panel Van from Greece which my friend had imported (5 in total) and started to restore, although not the best prep work and spray job in the world this was reflected in the price so I was happy. I've had it 2 months now and loads more work has been done to Penelope which is probably why my bank account doesn't look great
Im off to the Big Bang next Fri so hopefully she will last. Ive included some pics below and I will attempt to add a photo bucket link.
hi and welcome they look sweet fella. have you done the work yourself the interior looks nice to. im in the middle of a resto at the mo, a 1970 early bay. by the look you must be just just up the road from me, in the army base. all the soldiers run past my house up on harlow moor road. i~ll give you a wave if i see ya all the best paul
Yeah im just up the road from you on Oak Avenue. I haven't done any of the prep work myself or spraying, but i'm now working my way through the Haynes manual sorting things that have allowed it to just scrape through dubious MOT!!! prior to my purchase.
So far i've replaced all the Brake drums, shoes, discs pads and drum pistons. also learned how to fix and flare brake pipes (accident not by choice):-) and today i've done all 4 CV joints and bled the brakes and i'm now about to tackle a funny noise that comes from the front wheel whilst driving (rubbing noise) oh and the Carb has to come out today as i'm going to try and re-furb it rather than replace.
everything is being done for the first time as I have no experience what so ever so everything is a drama, good fun though.
hi wayne good to see you getting stuck in. funny noise could be your wheel bearing. jack the wheel up and give it a spin. grab wheel at top and bottom, if there is any movement, it~s more than likley your wheel bearing. if you get stuck fella, just post me, and ill try to help. thx paul
Appreciated, I jacked up the front yesterday but couldn't find anything wrong so I sprayed a bit of break cleaner about and also put a bit of WD40 on the steering linkage as it was squeaking and the noise has gone....for now!
never got round to the carb yesterday but gonna take it off in a bit but I think it make well be buggered as the fast idle lever (think thats what its called) has play at the bottom and when I spray carb cleaner on it the revs increase.
Hows your project coming on? I might take a drive up past your way later and if your about working on it stop for a chat if thats ok.
i~ve being doing our bus for 2 years now. so about half way through. few pics. and im usually working on the bus, in the afternoon, after 1~2 pm. as i start work 6am. i live at 20 pendragon way the last turn on harlow moor road ,before you go on to otley road. im the big house in the corner. bob up anytime thx paul
