will run unleaded put new plugs in, new dizzy cap, rotor (check the points gap), coil ignition leads, battery, as long as all the electric wires are ok then it should start.
once you get it going get the engine warm, put some engine flush in and then drain and change the oil

Any fuel in the tank? if so its fair to say the petrol will be knackered. If you can't be rsed to drain it, then put a bit of new stuff in to dilute the crap stuff with the good 5hit. ;D

oh aye, if you put oil in the spark plug holes the pistons will of course compress it. Oil don't compress instead it will blow the head gasket or try to knock out the big ends. I beleive the tale was to use a wee bit of parrafin which will lubricate a 'tad' yet is thin enough to drain past the piston rings. Better still, don't put anything down the plug holes, just turn it over with a spanner on the crank pulley to make sure its free. Then of course do the stuff Herman says; plugs points etc..

Points are in the dizzy and you adjust using a feeler gauge You need to but this book HOW TO KEEP YOUR VOLKSWAGEN ALIVE from www.vwbooks.co.uk/I recommend all parts from www.vwheritage.com/you can also try German & Swedish which have a Leeds branch. For heater channel best place in leeds is Herbie Hospital speak to Leon
