This is Tallulah my 1962 bug as she was a few months ago, fairly ship shape but starting to peel a bit round the edges. She has had a few dodgy paint jobs over the years and although the pictures dont look too bad there was a few bits of rot that needed attention. Over the winter I've decided to treat the old girl to a bit of TLC and make her feel young again.

Not being an expert welder or car painter I left Tallulah's body in the capable and skilled hands of Mick to work his magic. First job was rot spotting, it wasnt actually as bad as I had expected. Big hole behind back seat: Now fixed: a wee spon on one of the inner arches - now sorted

Front valance looked fine from the outside but was mostly filler and rust...new panel there then. Here it is after being chopped off: And the new one after being expertly grafted on by Mick, it was no mean feat getting the bonnet to fit again:

New wings, the ones on the car were repros and pretty rusted, they could have been made ok but I got some new ones. I have still have some fibreglass ones on order from day mouldings, but their waiting list now amounts to about 3-4 months - cant wait that long so got some fairly good quality steel repros. (I will keep the day mouldings ones when they finally arrive and find a new project to put them on).

The jobs seem to be moving on nicely, it'll look sweet when she gets a shiney new paint job.
I had some work done on the van over the last few months, I'll get some pics up myself soon.
Cheers Mick

I have a set of door cards and seat covers which I acquired from fleabay for a very reasonable sum (occasionally you can still get a bargain on fleabay). I didn't really need a new interior as Tallulah's interior was in pretty good shape and still original - I couldn't bring myself to butcher it - there was no way I was going to rip the original covers off and fit the new ones, after all I might not like the new ones. Instead I put the feelers out and after a long search now have a very serviceable set of seats to play with, frames are a bit rusty but after a bit of stripping should come up a treat. Hmmm nice new clean door cards and seat covers: Here's one of the front seats, bit rusty but in good nick, cheers to Ian for parting with them! I now have 2 interiors and only one bug........might need to find another bug for my spare interior and day mouldings wings - wife might have another suggestion though

Just spent the last hour fitting the first of the seat covers. After a ferurb of the seat frames, and much anticipation, I set to to take on the first backrest. I put the cover over the radiator to get the vinyl nice and supple and got the fire going so I could sit in front of it and keep it hot while I was working on it. The fit was pretty good but friction between the padding and inside of the cover was a bit of a problem. To solve the friction problem I pulled a swing-bin liner down over the seat and pulled the cover down over that - did the trick and now went on nice and smooth Getting the hems in the channel at the back was a real and after a lot of sweating and severe cramp in my thumbs the job was done one cover down only 5 to go.

Things are really coming together now, here are some more pics for your perusal: Looking good with the wings on: I'm loving the dash with the glove box and ashtray done in the lighter shade: Decided to do the petrol tank in cream too, fancied something a bit different from the usual black: And here she is chilling with Dave's cal looker: Not long now and I can raid my big box of nice new shiny bits

Been annoyed this week - the end is in sight but now it has come to putting the shiny bits on and there are a few problems. The nice new body trim arrived all kinked - it's not as though it got damaged in transit, packaging was fine so it must have left the stock room damaged! Also decided to go for the more expensive pre-shaped alu window trim, its been sitting in a box for ages and now that the time has come to fit it - it's the wrong flaming size they sent the later stuff for larger windows. I've decided to go for a cheaper roll of plastic stuff now instead! So by the time I have sorted the right bits out it looks like next weekend - gives me a bit more time to finish the upholstery out anyway. I'm gonna finish the post with a big because she's gonna look hot, hot, hot.
