Hello everyone
As I am finally going to IRS my Split (after 17 years thinking about it!), I was wondering whether anyone had experience/warnings/recommendations regarding the various options out there.
I have the gearbox already, would like to keep the original wheelstud pattern and lower it as little as possible.
I have already discounted the Creative Engineering solution as I am not prepared to cut the van.
The Volksheaven kit sounds interesting ...? Does it work OK and are there unforeseen problems or expenses in fitting it?
I am wanting to keep the bus looking original but raise the speed and economy - and stop holding back friends with Bays and T25s!
Any advice greatly appreciated.
Thanks
Hugh

Helloooo. I've got the Volksheaven kit on my van and never had any problems with it. It's been on for about 4yrs or so now. Like you I didn't want to cut anything, just in case I wanted to go back to a standard bus ( look out flying pigs !!!!). Couldn't imagine going back to the reduction boxes. The only down side is that you lose some torque on hill climbing, but other than that it wins everytime. You should be able to leave the height fairly close to standard, but it will drop.
Extra jobs are - welding A arm brackets, brake pipe re-routing, fit new shock mounts(get creative ones). Overall it's a pretty straight forward job - think I had mine done in a weekend.
I'm in Morley. If you want to come and have a look - get in touch via PM. No engine or gearbox in at the moment so it's a good time to see it.
