Got some more work done over christmas. All paintwork now completed and stored away for the body re-build. The back end up to the gearbox is now all built up, all cables and linkages in, can't believe that all this too 5 solid days of graft, here are some update pics The Cabrio hood, seats and panels off to Steve Bowles in Devon for trimming More bits than you would believe to be cleaned up, blasted, painted, tagged and baged This at long last looks like a rear drum, built up with backing plate, shooes in and brakes built up ready for the lines and handbrake cable At long last, a brake drum is fitted Suspension arms all in, shocks re-bushed and fitted, Spring Plates fitted and tensioned More to follow

Been a bit of a busy time like.......Bonnet, wings, deck lid, fuel tank all now painted.....finish just right. Built up decklid ready to take the chrome and the re-sprayed number plate holder..............this looks the way it should Got all the Stainless Steel bolts made up and in ready to take the wings and Bumper Holders Before and after...Bumper Holders...these took some doing I can tell you. Odds n ends done to the body, bonnet catch cleaned, blasted, primed, re-built, re-sprayed.....4 hours work just for that catch.....switches, door escutcheons, hinge holder bolts....rear window winders...all starting to take shape...all takes so long to do it right Enjoy the updates

Hi Jon.....Naw Black as.....will just totally set it off. This resto is eating away at the manhours and its only about 30% complete!!! This door pillar took 3 hours to run the tap through, feed the wiring, fix the hing and pin, re-fix the bolts and mount the switch and STILL its not complete... I am sure it will be worth it in the end.

latest update........another 20 hours and the Rolling Shell should be complete ready to take the Body. The original GT wheels are off to the blasters and the narrow white walls ordered from the states along with all the rubber from "Chucks Convertibles"....been doing a fair bit to the body over the last week or so, the trim is now on the doors, bonnet, boot lid and the body, the bumper shocks have been refurbished and recharged and are now fitted to act as lifting aids for the body. The maze of bits for the fresh air ducting and blower fan arrangement were a nightmare,.......this alone took 30...yep...30 hours to clean up, degrease, reconfigure and fit, its incredible how long this all takes...I wish I had stripped it down though, at least I would have labelled items removed!!!! Engine is on order from T2D, nothing wild just something mild.......totally stock "Looking" but no one will know what will really be lurking....should be ready end of March. Trimmers are busy and all should be on track to get the shell down to Bowles in Devon by the end of March (Less engine, wings and bumpers- to avoid damage mainly) have look at the upates below......enjoy.......more to follow [img src="http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v207/keredewor/Karmann%20Kab/karmanncab085.jpg[/I img.photobucket.com/albums/v207/keredewor/Karmann%20Kab/karmanncab083.jpg"]

Looks great... & really shows just how many man hours it takes to build a car like that... will be interesting to compare the hours to build with vw's hours to build a car in the 70's

June just wanted a nice beetle that she can enjoy over the summer and stored for the winter, just makes sense to do it right first time, it will get used and no doubt dinged, its just a great way to enjoy rather than sat in front of the telly.............good for the club as well of course....

Looking fabulous Derek! Would love to see it at this stage all bare and showing its insidey bits!! Is that your garage/unit floor? How do you keep it so clean LOL. You HAVE to get this story to Volksworld / Ultra - they'll be made up to get news and a feature on a resto of this quality! Keep up the good work Derek - its AMAZING!

The most impossible task was completed this weekend.....the heater tubes from the bottom of the heater channels up through the valance/wing.....this was so difficult as you cannot see the nozzles on the heater channels so its all by feel down there......sods law on the Kab the old heater ducting was caked on....it took 10 hours to gradualy prize it all off. Here is the pic showing the heater tubes now firmly fixed in and bonded to the upper vent ducts in the dash area on both sides, just needs touching in where the inner wings took some colateral.....the pic also shows the refurbished wiper motor fixed and wired in through the bulkhead ready to take the resprayed wiper mechanism. Finally the original (not mexican) bonnet seal arrived and its in on the top bulkhead, just needs smearing with glue and final fix. The other really difficult job this weekend was to fix the two rear bakelite heater diverter tubes to the heater channels and mount them ready for the engine heat exhangers, getting the correct gaskets was the first challenge and then lining up and bolting to the rear bulkhead was a right bar steward......sorted now though, along with 4 grazed knuckles!!!

Respect Derek.... I have no idea how you do it..... I say again....this project HAS to be recognised by magazine feature, its going to be beauty - even if June just wants it as a summer run around - it is as good (if not 10 times better) as any resto you see in the monthly mags. Keep the pics coming.....
